Columbia Chamber Backs Amazon

The Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce urges Senators to vote in favor of the bill allowing sales tax collection exemption for Amazon.

The state of South Carolina needs to find a way to preserve the more than 4,000 full-time and part-time jobs Amazon would bring to the Midlands. We must protect the reputation of S.C. as a state that lives up to its commitments.

The bottom line is that if the project does not move forward, Amazon will still not collect S.C. sales tax on goods sold on the Internet to S.C. residents. Amazon will continue to ship goods from other states and create additional jobs for that area’s citizens.

Collecting sales tax on Internet sales is a valid issue for discussion and debate, but is a national issue that can only be addressed by the U.S. Congress.

The Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce stands behind job creation and economic development and thereby supports Amazon in South Carolina.

Weekend Service Project

This weekend 30 soldiers from Ft. Jackson’s Leadership Training Class volunteered their time to build a 25 ft. ramp for a Columbia amputee victim that was unable to enter her house. The new ramp will now enable her to get in and out of the house safely to go to the doctor to start the prosthetic fitting process. Along with the build,  soldiers mowed the yard, trimmed trees, spread mulch, moved rotten logs, and created a burn pile from all the cleanup materials.

Also involved in the project was Bulow BioTech Prosthetics, Soldier Support Institute and the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce.
