Sea Manna, LLC Launches Fresh Direct Seafood Business

June 8, 2012 –  Sea Manna, LLC, a company that offers fresh local seafood in the Columbia area, is excited to announce the launch of its website atwww.seamanna.net.  Orders are taken online and customers can pick them up twice a month at four locations in the Columbia area:  Lexington, Northeast and Southeast Columbia, and the South Carolina Farmers’ Market.  Sea Manna currently offers shrimp in 5 lb. bags but will soon add oysters, clams, hybrid striped bass and more before the end of the year.  The launch arrives at the perfect time, right in the beginning of a record breaking start to the shrimp season.

The company is the brainchild of Clay Chappell, a local fish hatchery owner who is a native of Columbia, SC.  He has been involved in the fish business for over thirty years and is excited to deliver affordable fresh seafood to the community.  Clay spent many hours brainstorming how to provide the freshest seafood possible from the Carolina coasts to give people of the Midlands an opportunity to experience what “fresh” really tastes like.  The plan was simple.  By taking pre-orders from customers, the fishermen would catch-to-order, ensuring that you are getting the freshest seafood possible.  Pre-determined pick up locations would make the fresh seafood easily accessible.

“I’m thrilled to kick off this company and be able to offer my fellow South Carolinians a chance to easily order and enjoy the freshest seafood there is.  It is also a way for me to introduce the fisherman who produce our premium  seafood. “ said Clay.

The name of the company combines the words “sea” and “manna”(a biblical reference meaning an unexpected or gratuitous gift). In recognizing the ever-increasing demand for fresh and local food, Sea Manna is dedicated to running a transparent business where customers always have answers to the questions, “where did my food come from?” and “how far did my food travel to get to my dinner table?”.  As far as their shrimp goes, the shrimp are harvested on our coast between Beaufort and Charleston, and 115-130 miles away to be exact.

The new website will continue to be updated to provide customers and visitors with pictures and videos of the actual fishermen who catch their seafood.  Family recipes and information about the various seafood offered will also be included.

Our product is 100% natural and guaranteed 100% to your satisfaction.

For more information about Sea Manna, LLC or to order your first batch of fresh local seafood, visit us aswww.seamanna.net.

Local Funeral Home Buys Back From National Company

COLUMBIA, SC – June 4, 2012 – In a move that defies industry trends over the past 20 years, Shives Funeral Home, a mainstay of greater Columbia, SC will buy back its business from Service Corporation International (SCI), a national owner and operator of funeral homes. This will make Shives one of the only family-owned, family-operated funeral home among its competitors in Richland and Lexington counties.

The decision to buy back the business from SCI comes as Shives Funeral Home celebrates its 80th anniversary and comes on the heels of its most successful year in business to date. “I am excited to be given the opportunity to return this family-named business back to a family-owned business for years. In an age when all we hear about is corporate buy-outs and the demise of small business in our city, I am proud to be in a position to bring a small business back to the Midlands,” says president, E. Randolph Shives III.

In the 1999, Shives Funeral Home, like most of the area’s other larger family-owned funeral homes, followed industry trends of corporate consolidation.

“When the opportunity arose to purchase the company, it was perfect timing. I realized the best way to offer the highest level of personalized services to our customers could only be achieved by making decisions on the local level,” says Shives.

Randolph Shives and his uncle, Bill Shives, who purchased what was then called Talbert Funeral Home in 1967, will bring a combined 75+ years of experience to serve their growing customer base.

Shives Funeral Home will be one of the approximately 103,000 small business located in South Carolina. According to the National Funeral Directors Association, approximately 90% of the funeral homes in the U.S. are privately owned by families or individuals; the remainders are owned by corporations whose stock is publicly traded.

For more information on Shives Funeral Home, visit www.shivesfuneralhome.com.

McCuen stated to the council and attendees that when she opened her doors in 1982 many questioned why she chose Lexington because, “there wasn’t anything happening here,” to which she replied, “We proved them wrong.”  McCuen’s legacy continues with her daughter, Elizabeth Trenbeath, President of the Snelling franchise in Lexington and the Columbia branch that opened in 2004.  She is a current member of the National Snelling Advisory Council, a position McCuen held in 1987.  Other Snelling representatives recognized by the Council were Natalie Henderson, Business Development Manager; Paige Bates, Staffing Manager; and Sam McCuen, community activist.  Snelling is deeply involved in community organizations including the Lexington and Columbia Chambers of Commerce, professional groups, and has four Leadership Columbia and three Leadership Lexington graduates.
