Charlotte L. Berry is Keynote Speaker at Midland’s National Philanthropy Day

The Association of Fundraising Professionals Central Carolina Chapter is honored to announce that Ms. Charlotte L. Berry of Columbia, SC is going to give this year’s keynote address at the chapter’s National Philanthropy Day celebration e on Thursday, November 17, 2011.

“We couldn’t think of anyone who embodies philanthropy more than Charlotte,” said Chapter President Mary Katherine Marshall.  “She has immersed herself in the mission of many non-profits, not just in the Midlands but nationally.  She is the volunteer, the board member, the advocate and the philanthropist.  Charlotte’s motto of bloom where you’re planted has left a garden in the Midlands that many non-profits will benefit from for a long time.”

Each year, the National Philanthropy Day celebration honors the philanthropic community in the Midlands.  Nominations are accepted for: Outstanding Fundraising Executive, Outstanding Volunteer/Volunteer Group Fundraiser, Outstanding Youth/Youth Group Fundraiser, Outstanding Corporation, and Outstanding Philanthropist.  Charlotte Berry is a past recipient of the Outstanding Philanthropist Award.  This year the event will be held at Brookland Convention Center in West Columbia and begins at 11:30 am on November 17th.

To honor Charlotte’s commitment to the spirit of philanthropy, the chapter has created two scholarships in her honor to encourage the advancement of young development professionals and those professionals whose organizations may not have the financial resources to provide local continuing education for their staff.  The Charlotte L. Berry Spirit of Philanthropy Scholarship recipients will be announced at the event.

COLUMBIA AIRPORT GIVES THE GIFT OF DOUBLE AIRLINE MILES

Babcock Center Announces Opening of North Main Flea Market

Babcock Center Inc. presents the grand opening of the North Main Flea Market located at 7615 Wilson Blvd., Columbia, SC 29203.  The grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, November 5, 2011.  Normal business hours will be Saturday 8a.m. to 5p.m. and Sunday 10a.m. to 5p.m. Booth rentals are available for vendors.

CHARLESTON COMMERICAL REAL ESTATE MARKET CONTINUES TO IMPROVE, ACCORDING TO NAI AVANT

The Charleston commercial real estate market continued to recover in the third quarter according to the Third Quarter Charleston Commercial Real Estate Market Report released by NAI Avant.

At the end of the third quarter the industrial, office and retail markets all saw improvement. The industrial market had its second consecutive quarter of growth with the vacancy rate falling to 10.3 percent and net absorption of 933,000 square feet. The office market had its seventh consecutive quarter of falling vacancy, currently at 8.5 percent. The retail market experienced the fourth consecutive quarter with positive absorption and falling vacancy. Overall vacancy fell to 5.7 percent and 53,000 square feet absorbed.
