Chamber President: “Closing A Military Base Would Cripple The Local Economy”

Columbia, SC (WLTX) – The Obama Administration has unveiled a new defense budget that could call for a new round of military base closings.

While no closings have yet to be announced, the news has many here in the Midlands concerned over the possible economic impact.

According to President Ike McLeese with the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, serious economic consequences would be the result if the Government were to close a military base in state.

McLeese said closing a Fort Jackson, McIntyre, or a Shaw Air Force Base would be absolutely crippling to the local and state economy.
