“Care Kits” Drive Nets Hundreds of Items for Families with Hospitalized ChildrenTake Time Take Care 2

Columbia, S.C. – A group of Columbia businesses collected piles of personal care items in early 2013 to assist parents dealing with the unexpected hospitalization of a child. The toiletries will be made into “Care Kits” and distributed to families of children in the pediatric intensive care and pediatric intermediate intensive care units at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital.

The Care Kits are the brainchild of Christy Sears of South Carolina REALTORS, who was moved to create them after her newborn son spent time in the neonatal intensive care unit in 2011. Since then, her friends, family, and a group of Columbia businesses have joined her in her efforts, enabling her to donate more than 300 Care Kits to families who often rush to the hospital without bringing essential personal care items.
