On January 25, 2014, an anticipated 600+ participants will run or walk to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Columbia, SC during the 8th Annual Red Shoe Run. This flat and fast Palmetto Grand Prix 5K will begin at 8:15 a.m. and the 10K will begin at 8 a.m. from Hand Middle School and will run through the beautiful Shandon neighborhood.

Participants will return to Hand Middle School for awards and delicious, organic breakfast items, compliments of Earth Fare, as well as other vendors, drinks and more. Columbia’s very own, ‘Joe Friday’, otherwise known as Joe Pinner, will emcee the race as it is professionally managed by Strictly Running.

Palmetto Health Foundation

Kristin Lavender Joins Palmetto Health Foundation
Palmetto Health Foundation is pleased to announce Kristin Lavender has been named Development Coordinator for Palmetto Health Cancer Centers at the Foundation.
Lavender was most recently in the Government Relations Department of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation, where she spent more than seven years managing the Palmetto Palate, an annual fundraising event. She also was a contributing writer of SC Farmer magazine as well as a grant writer for the organization.

A 2006 graduate of Clemson University, Lavender received a Bachelor of Arts in English and was a founder and active volunteer for the William T. Howell Pre-Law Society.

In her role at Palmetto Health Foundation, Lavender will assist with two of the Foundation’s signature fundraising events, Walk for Life/Race for Life and the McDaniels Golf Classic. She also will manage Miracle Team, the Foundation’s annual fundraising campaign for Palmetto Health employees.

Richland-Lexington Airport Commission Welcomes Dan Bell/Releases 2014 Meeting Calendar

The Richland-Lexington Airport Commission is pleased to welcome Dan Bell as its newest Commission member.  Bell was appointed by the Lexington County Legislative Delegation and replaces Commissioner Robert “Bob” Price who served on the Commission for over eight years.

Bell is the President of Dan Bell & Co., Inc. which specializes in international market and foundry development for larger cast iron parts for the wind, locomotive, turbine, and construction equipment markets. For 14 years he worked for ThyssenKrupp and their Brazilian operations, followed by Neenah Foundry of Neenah, Wisconsin, URV of Finland, and currently Yeong Guan Energy Technology Group of Taiwan. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Bell has 40 years of experience in supply chain, logistics, capacity utilization, and international market development in the iron and steel industries.

Not a stranger to community service, Bell is serving his second term on the Lexington County Department of Social Services Board. On his appointment to the Commission Bell says that he is looking forward to being a part of an organization that plays such an important economic role in the development and quality of life in the Midlands. “The Columbia Metropolitan Airport is a resource to this community with great opportunities and I’m pleased to now serve the Richland-Lexington Airport District,” says Bell.

The Richland-Lexington Airport Commission serves as the governing body of the Richland-Lexington Airport District, a political sub-division of the State of South Carolina.  It is composed of five appointees from the Richland County Delegation, five appointees from the Lexington County Delegation and two from the City of Columbia.  The Commission holds public meetings monthly at 4pm in the Carolina Room in the airport terminal.  2014 meeting dates are as follows:

NAI AVANT FACILITATES THE SALE OF 1,131 ACRE COOKS MOUNTAIN IN RICHLAND COUNTY, SC

NAI Avant brokers, Tom Milliken and Tombo Milliken, recently facilitated the sale of Cooks Mountain to Haile Gold Mine, Inc., for $3,795,000.  Haile Gold Mine acquired the land as part of a proposed mitigation plan to develop what will be the only producing gold mine in the eastern United States.  Cooks Mountain stands approximately 374 feet above sea-level and consists of 1,131 acres of very unique and diversified habitat.  The 1,131 acres are planned to be part of a 3,700 acre conservation area, if the required permits are issued in the future.  The entire 3,700 acres would be donated to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources for a riverfront nature preserve in the Midlands to be managed for the benefit of the public.  Haile Gold Mine, Inc., had previously acquired a 700 acre property in Lancaster County, known as Rainbow Ranch.  The 700 acres adjoins Forty Acre Rock which also is owned and managed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.  As another key component to the proposed HGM mitigation plan, Rainbow Ranch is in the Flat Creek critical habitat area for the endangered Carolina Heelsplitter.  This property will increase the Flat Creek Heritage Preserve by approximately 30%.
