Northeast Area Update | March 12

Upper East Side – Can you feel spring yet? It’s close. Soon it will be time for patio happy hours and farmer’s market meandering. In the meantime, though, here’s what’s happening on the Upper East Side:

Indoor football teams up with the Village

The Village at Sandhill announced this week it is partnering with Columbia’s new Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) team The Capital City Revolt. The Village will host player appearances, autograph sessions, and contests for free tickets to Revolt games. The 2014 season begins in May. You can get more details on the team at www.capitalcityrevolt.com. Welcome to the Upper East Side, UIFL!

New Chamber member to host Business After Hours

Our newest Upper East Side Chamber member, Discount Tire Company, will host Business After Hours next Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. The store manager, Charlie Whitener, invites business owners to come over and talk about the advantages of Discount Tire partnerships for employee benefits and reciprocal business. Tour the operation, meet the team, and learn why Discount Tire Company is America’s top tire retailer.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Discount Tire!

Celebrate Women’s History Month with Business at Sunrise

Lean In Columbia and the Chamber are excited to host a Business at Sunrise focused on Advancing Women in the Workplace. The March 27, 2014 Business at Sunrise at Spring Valley Country Club will feature panelists discussing the ways in which they encourage women toward leadership and responsibility in the workplace. Our panelists include:

  • Rebecca Vance, City Manager from the city of Cayce
  • Terry Peace, Senior Vice President, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina
  • Sarah Martin, Assistant Vice President, BlueCross Blue Shield of South Carolina

Lean In Columbia is a new women’s organization focused on learning and sharing the success stories of women in business in Columbia. We’re offering sponsorships to this event for very low rates (like whatever you can pay) so if you’re a woman-owned business and want to be associated with this event, send me an email and I’ll put you on the sponsors list.

Please encourage your colleagues to register and plan to attend. This is a great opportunity to open dialogue about women in business in Columbia.
