This week, Carl presented an update on the Chamber’s military support program to the City Council. The program was well received and the Chamber was applauded for their outstanding leadership at the recent U.S. Army Community Listening Session.
The Chamber also hosted local business leaders for a mission briefing by BG Dave Glaser, Chief of Staff, Army Central, based in Sumter at Shaw Air Force. The meeting provided a forum to introduce General Glaser to members of the local business community.
The Republican-controlled Congress is close to passing a Federal Budget, which has not been done since 2009. There are several positive initiatives in the proposed budget including a substantial increase in Defense Spending. This is very promising for our “Save our Fort” campaign effort. While not specifically earmarked for maintaining domestic Military infrastructure, this shows that Congress has at least gotten the message that it needs to invest more resources to properly fund our Military.
