SC Budget Debates Begin
The City, County, State and School districts have begun the enormous task of planning next year’s budget. What’s in and what’s out? Stay tuned for updates as they unfold.

Rally at the State House!
There will be a rally at the State House on Tuesday, May 19 to help encourage the Senate to take action and pass a sustainable highway-funding bill this session. Come out to the 1st floor lobby of the State House at 11:30 AM and let the Senate know that potholes and politics don’t have to be a way of life!

On May 21, Carolina Crossroads will make a special presentation at Midday Connections on the I-20/26/126 Corridor Project! This project will improve mobility and safety in one of the most congested highway corridors in the state and don’t forget to pick up your free copy of Columbia: City of Rivers, Vistas and Dreams, autographed by local author Tom Poland.

Moving the Vietnam Wall
Yesterday was the opening ceremony of the Vietnam Veterans Celebration and “The Moving Vietnam Wall,” bearing the names of South Carolinians who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. The Chamber was honored to be a part of such a moving celebration and we plan to continue the celebration throughout the weekend. Come join us!

The Columbia Chamber celebrated two ribbon cutting this week! Tuesday, we joined with Precision Laser Spa to celebrate the opening of their new business on Bower Parkway and Thursday, Helping Hands Caregivers, (Two-Notch Road) had a ribbon cutting. LCAA Leadership Summit
More than 130 LCAA members and guests welcomed Governor Nikki Haley to the 18th Annual Leadership Summit on May 12 at the Palmetto Club.  During her keynote speach, Governor Haley discussed her administration’s achievements on key issues, including education and economic development.  Following the luncheon, LCAA members participated in interactive workshops and ended the day with a reception. It was a time to network with friends, grow as professionals, connect with classmates and overall, it was another successful summit.
