Big News for SC!
Today South Carolina is celebrating a historic week that has made our state stronger.
Just one week after we celebrated our independence as a nation, South Carolina is celebrating our unity as a state. Yesterday Governor Haley signed a bill to remove the flag from the State House grounds and today it comes down and is moved to the state’s Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum for display. After the tragedy in Charleston on June 17, South Carolina has come together to show that love trumps hate and that we are stronger than lines of division.
On February 26, 2015 the Columbia Chamber hosted a community listening session to rally around our soldiers at Fort Jackson. The Supplemental Programmatic Environmental Assessment (SPEA) decision states Fort Jackson will experience only 180 uniform cuts while other forts saw reductions in the thousands. Announcements regarding contracting cuts will be made in September.
Without the support from the thousands of community members who stood up for the fort, this outcome could be drastically different. Thank you for standing up for Fort Jackson and our soldiers. We are honored and humbled to be the “Most Military Friendly Community in America!”
