Chamber representatives participate in a variety of community meetings and activities each week. Some noteworthy examples from the past week include: members of the Public Policy Committee and local leadership interviewed candidates in the running for City Council positions in District 2; partnered with the City of Columbia to host the SC Women’s Business Center Annual Columbia Women in Business Luncheon; worked with SCANA’s Supplier Strategic Manager to review possible funding and grant opportunities; participated in the Central Carolina Foundation’s brainstorming meeting to identify creative uses for “green space” in Columbia; participated in the Power Business Breakfast, featuring two past Chamber Chairmen – Holt Chetwood and Mike Brenan; provided welcome for the Fort Jackson Army Spouses Luncheon.

The Chamber hosted a welcome breakfast for the 48th Commanding General of Fort Jackson, Major General Roger L. Cloutier, Jr. More than 120 business and community leaders, Chamber partners, and elected officials came out to help prove that we really are “The Most Military Friendly Community in America!”
In partnership with the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the MIDSTATE Chambers Coalition and the Lexington Chamber of Commerce; the Columbia Chamber hosted a grassroots meeting for our Partners. On Thursday, Ted Pitts, President of the SC Chamber, asked businesses what local and state issues they would like to see identified in their 2016 legislative agenda.
As the Columbia Chamber prepares to build our 2016 Public Policy agenda we will be polling our Partners to see what is important to you. Keep an eye out for an email requesting your input.
On Thursday, the Leadership Columbia Alumni Association hosted their 11th Annual ELM Society Social at the new University of South Carolina Alumni Center. Around 100 graduates of Leadership Columbia from the past 43 classes gathered for an evening of cocktails and networking. The inaugural event of the LCAA calendar celebrates the class of 2015 becoming alumni, and welcomes the incoming class of 2016.
