State Agencies to Make Suggestions to Department of Revenue by May 8

Governor Haley has issued an Executive Order requiring all state agencies to review statutes, rules, regulations and policies for their effects on South Carolina’s economy. The purpose of this review is to determine whether the costs of these statutes, rules, regulations and policies outweigh their intended benefits. In making this determination, each agency must consider the necessity, complexity, effectiveness, redundancy, and the impact of statutes, rules, regulations, and policies on the businesses and economy of South Carolina. Businesses are encouraged to provide suggestions to the Department of Revenue by the extended deadline of May 8, 2013. Find more information here.

To guarantee all comments and suggestions are given appropriate consideration, it is requested that business leaders provide the following:

1. Your name, your company’s name and your contact information (requested information, but not required).

2. Specify the statute, rule, regulation, policy or tax form, application, or other form or instructional material name or number to which each comment applies.

3. If the comment applies to a proposed statute, rule, regulation or policy, provide a copy of or reference to the proposal.

4. Specifically state how the statute, rule, regulation, policy or form unduly burdens you or your business.

5. Alternative approaches or language you believe will reduce the burden of the provision on you or your business while still meeting the intent or goal of the statute, rule, regulation, policy or form. (Requested, but not required).
